New hobby unlocked
For a long time I was thinking about buying a telescope, well this year was the year!
Astronomy is one of those things that always fascinated me, but I never cared enough to do it. Maybe it was the Black Friday fever or something else, but finally I made the decision to buy a telescope.
Caveat: I am not an astronomer, but I am learning as I go.
What did I buy?
First of all you don’t buy a telescope, this is just a part of the puzzle.
It all depends on how deep you want to go. If you want something basic you can even start with some binoculars.
In my case I want to try classic star observation with a glimpse of astrophotography.
The shopping list
- Telescope: Skywatcher 127mm f/5.6
- Mount: Skywatcher AZ GTI + Tripod
- SBC (Single Board Computer): Raspberry Pi 5
I will not go into the details about extra components like filters, adapters, etc.
I will use first a Nikon DSLR D5200 from 2014, just to test this kind of astrophotography.
Eventually I will jump to astrophotography cameras those with coolers, but for now I will use a DSLR.
How did I decide to buy this combination of equipment? After watching a lot of videos on YouTube and with the help of my good pal Gemini LLM.
The challenge
I am not what you can call a handyman, so setting up and configuring all this gear will be a monumental task and I will need to learn a lot of things.
I know I will have to endure a lot of stress before I start getting results, but for now the challenge is accepted.
I will share here my journey into astronomy and astrophotography.
